HUB CAPS AND TAIL LIGHTS – OUR STUDIO

Ahead of our new recordings being posted we thought we would give you an insight into ‘the hub’.

We spent more than a couple of months learning how to soundproof, insulate, nail gun, building a room with no windows and double doors in a empty barn.

This is where we rehearse and record for hours on end, surviving on Diet Coke. Having previously spent some time in Mark Freegard’s studio, which has no dividing control room and live room we decided to do the same, (plus it was cheaper). It makes it easier to record on spur of the moment, so we usually have a state of half rehearsal, half recording set up, it’s very organic and makes it easy to ‘remix’ live, but can be a bit chaotic…

Non tech heads skip this paragraph… We run everything off a MAKIE desk and on a MACBOOK PRO with a FOCUSRITE SAFFIRE, through a combination of ABLETON LIVE, BFD and LOGIC software. Despite these materials we are fans of keeping it simple and making mistakes, so if the guitar is clipping and it sounds good, we’ll keep it.

We try to create a blend of raw instruments with digital production, make it interesting but keep the ‘hook’ as the most important element. You can polish shite as much as you want, but at the end of the day it’s still going to be shite… So we try to start off with something that we like then take it further and make it something to dance to.
